Change unhelpful patterns. Feel calmer. Live with greater confidence.
If anxiety, stress, low confidence or persistent negative thinking are affecting your daily life, it can often feel as though your mind is working against you.
You may know logically that you’re safe, capable or good enough, yet still find yourself worrying, avoiding situations or reacting in ways you wish you could change.
“We cannot solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
— Albert Einstein
These automatic responses aren’t a sign of weakness. They’re learned patterns that your brain has developed over time—and the good news is that learned patterns can be changed.
Hypnotherapy provides a gentle yet effective way of helping you do exactly that.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy uses focused attention and deep relaxation to help you become more receptive to positive change.
During hypnosis, your attention becomes less distracted by the constant chatter of everyday life, allowing you to explore thoughts, feelings and behaviours with greater clarity.
“Hypnosis is a natural human experience.” — Eric Greenleaf, PhD
Despite the myths often portrayed in films and on television, you are always aware, always in control and cannot be made to do anything against your wishes. Hypnosis isn’t about losing control, it’s about learning how to use your mind more effectively.
Most people describe hypnosis as feeling deeply relaxed, calm and pleasantly absorbed, similar to becoming immersed in a good book or daydream.
How hypnotherapy can help
Many of the thoughts, emotions and behaviours we struggle with operate automatically.
Anxiety, self-doubt, unhelpful habits and emotional reactions can become deeply ingrained through repetition and life experiences, even when they no longer serve us.
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” – Carl Rogers
Hypnotherapy helps interrupt these automatic patterns and supports the development of healthier, more helpful ways of thinking and responding.
It can help you to:
- Reduce anxiety and manage stress more effectively.
- Calm an overactive mind and nervous system.
- Build confidence and self-belief.
- Improve sleep and relaxation.
- Break unhelpful habits and patterns of thinking.
- Develop greater emotional resilience.
- Feel more in control of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
A personalised approach
No two people are the same, so no two sessions are identical.
Every session is tailored to your individual needs, goals and experiences. Together we’ll explore what is maintaining the problem before using hypnotherapy to support meaningful, lasting change.
Alongside clinical hypnotherapy, I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques where appropriate. My specialist Diploma in Hypno-CBT allows me to bring these approaches together, using the focused state of hypnosis alongside practical CBT strategies to help clients understand and change unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
CBT helps identify and challenge unhelpful patterns of thinking, while hypnosis can reinforce healthier perspectives and emotional responses. Together, they can be particularly effective for anxiety, low self-esteem, stress, fears, phobias and unwanted habits.
Where appropriate, I may also draw upon Positive Psychology techniques, helping you build on your strengths rather than simply reducing symptoms. My aim is not only to help you feel better but to help you function well, develop resilience and create lasting wellbeing.
What to expect
Sessions are relaxed, collaborative and always tailored to you.
A typical session includes:
- Time to discuss how you’ve been since your previous session and identify what you’d like to focus on.
- Practical strategies and psychological techniques to help you understand and manage the issue.
- A personalised hypnotherapy session designed around your goals.
- Suggestions and exercises you can use between sessions to reinforce your progress.
My approach is supportive, practical and evidence-informed. Rather than relying on scripts or one-size-fits-all techniques, I adapt each session to meet your individual needs.
Helping you create lasting change
Hypnotherapy isn’t about someone else taking control of your mind. It’s about helping you develop greater control over your thoughts, emotions and behaviours.
“The patient, not the therapist, is the expert on his own life.”— Milton H. Erickson
Whether you’re looking to overcome anxiety, build confidence, improve your wellbeing or break free from patterns that no longer serve you, hypnotherapy can help you move forward with greater calm, clarity and confidence.
Important Information
Hypnotherapy may be used as a complementary approach to support wellbeing and help people cope with the emotional and psychological impact of some health conditions.
However, it should never be used as a substitute for medical diagnosis, treatment or advice.
If you have been diagnosed with, or suspect you may have, a serious or unexplained medical condition, please speak with your GP or appropriate healthcare professional before starting hypnotherapy.
You should continue with any medical treatment or medication prescribed by your healthcare professional.
Hypnotherapy is intended to complement, rather than replace, appropriate medical care.
